Segmetal Dilatation of the Colon in a Neonate

|
A 7-day-old neonate who had a segmental dilatation of the colon involving the sigmoid colon is presented. To our knowledge, this is the thirteenth report found in the literature of documented segmental dilatation of the colon. The clinical and
histopatholoigcal features in our cases correspond to the criteria for diagnosis of segmental dilatation of the colon. Surgical treatment consisted of segmental resection and end-to-end anastomosis. The etiology, clinical and radiological
fetures,
diagnosis, and treatment of this entity are discussed.
